I'm not saying that my speed was legal, but after she brakechecked me, she dropped her speed to under 55mph which is illegal at least in portions of Michigan; there's a thing called a minimum speed limit.

    -Don
    2 wrongs don't make a right.

EDIT: @ Rodimus - Had she hit me when I slammed on the brakes, she would have been at fault. All I have to do is tell the cop that I thought I saw an animal run across the road. She is supposed to keep enough distance to be able to stop if I slam on the brakes. Doesn't matter than I cut her off, she has to prove that I did, and she also has to prove that I slammed on the breaks with malice.
    -Don
Lying to the cops. Wonderful idea.

Whoa!! I feel a lot better that MBP is not getting CPU upgrade anytime soon. I don't want my month-old MBP getting obsolete in another month.

I would love to have a red iPod, but I don't know why we would ever give money to help fight AIDS on a continent where the people take NO precautions to prevent themselves from getting AIDS

Education to teach how to prevent the spread of AIDS costs money too.

I'm just a regular iPhone user...not a developer. I just want my phone work. And I want the apps to be fully vetted and tested before they are available for download. RA's action doesn't make me dislike the iPhone, Mac computers, or Apple. In fact, quite the opposite. It makes RA look childish. I say...good riddance. Oh, and I'm also now less likely to purchase other software from RA. Just sayin'

Then you're missing out. RA is a very highly regarded Mac developer.

And apple's actions here don't improve quality - they reduce it,

It is true, its all hearsay until Apple dishes out details. Without knowing the details the potential paths that this can take is what is causing people to be concerned. Personally, I believe that it will be some kind of backup locker to what you have. Like you can pick and choose what songs you want in the cloud and any iTunes purchases will have a copy there automatically. However, I'm just concerned that it might be the idea of replacing local storage. Simply put, its not time yet for that. Too many things will hamper happy adoption of such ideas.

I agree with this, it's not time to dump local storage but it is the direction we are moving for sure. Embrace it and enjoy the ride. It will happen maybe not completely but these things are just the building blocks (steps if you will) in the right direction. :)

Uh.... The CPU is 64bits, and it DOES have 64bits address-space. And it runs 64bit code just fine. It just happens that the rest of the system it's hooked up to does not support 4+GB of RAM. But that has NOTHING to do with the "bitness" of the CPU. C2D is a 64bit CPU, period.

Hell, there has been 64bit CPU's and machines for long time (SGI and Sun comes to mind), yet back in those days even 1GB of RAM would have cost an arm and a leg. Yet those machines were 64bit machines.

As to logic-board being 32bits... Uh, no. There might be various reasons why it doesn't support 4GB of RAM, and it isn't due to "bitness" of the logic-board. And pray-tell: what exactly is a "32bit logic-board"?

Sorry, that post was just me airing my thoughts and seeing what other people had to say. I wasn't making any claims, I don't know a lot about 64-bit computing. Glad my ignorant thoughts turned out to be wrong though!

I just assumed that being 64-bit or 32-bit was a system wide principle, either or.

Now that it's part of the platform Apple has no excuse for not including it. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see a MBP with this platform that still only has 2.0 connectors.

Yes I am. And fairly new to Apple (switched to Mac in 2006 and iPhone in 2007).

Does being new here mean that I have to learn how a corporation that just recorded at record net income of $5.23 billion is "DEAD"? If so, please enlighten me.

I have worked in finance for 35 years and only hold a Bachelors degree in Buisiness, but I'm sure from your response that you (and others here) know more about business than me. So please explain how the earnings report is an indication of impeding doom.... I'm always willing to learn from a group of experts!

Typical Arts student! come back when you're qualified in Science or Engineering and tell us how manufacturing products that are worth selling works.

Even the MBA crowd are appalling at their supposed specialty subject of business - that's just a euphemism for people who don't want to add value to something, but are skilled at counting the cost and value of things and are second only to accountants at removing the soul of a business in the name of making money.

Oh yeah - you said it - qualified in "buisiness" [sic] but works in finance - surely that should read - holds some form of accountancy degree and is an accountant? No? under-qualified then. (or clerk)

Is all relative. If you take my home country, it'll be around $1.32/hour pay for minimum wage. You get 2 weeks vacation and equivalent pay. Oh and down there they treat you like crap because of the infuriating high 35% unemployment rate. So everyone looks out for their job even if it means sucking up.

Here in the US you can fight it. So yeah. Also Europe has more taxes than the US. Consecuently we get taxed even lower than the US. But still $315.50 a month is barely covering cost of living even for my country.

    Care to complain now?

Sure, regardless of the situation in other countriesSouth America?the question is whether this is a problem in the U.S. and I think it is, and the comparison of a Swedish company using the US like the US uses Mexico, for cheap labor, should be a wakeup call to the US that our current economic policies are making us Mexico to Europe.

This sounds like IKEA is the one being a bitch.

I can't see how this is "the right's" fault. If so, why doesn't "the left" step in a help out?

As Ugg pointed out, the 'right' has pushed for anti-union policies, including 'right-to-work' status for states like Virginia. That said, I don't think this is a 'right' or 'left' issue per se, but rather a gleeful removal of worker's rights to garner jobsregardless of the health of a community funded by low-wage, short-term positions.

You never OWNED any of this stuff. You owned the physical media, and you had an unlimited license to you. The technology is just clarifying this.

If you had actually owned it, you could have copied it as much as you wanted-- legally-- and resold the copies to others. You have been capable of doing this, but it was illegal; it also was difficult to enforce the law. Now the technology is actually starting to match your legal rights. It's actually wonderful. You are not losing anything you had legally, but the true owners (the content creators and the people who support them financially) can stop getting ripped off by criminals.

Not sure this will completely stop piracy, but it will further deter it. However if you can store it on a drive without any sort of DRM. This service will do nothing for piracy.

    1. Play doesn't mean it needs to be on max settings and max resolution, so I am correct the last 2 generation can run crisis and crisis 2 at minimum settings
at about a 1080p resolution, and minimum settings for crisis is still pretty amazing.

    2. When you say "There is No Mac that can max crysis" .... are you excluding the 5870 mac pro?!

    3. You are very similar to me.... however instead oh having a Mac and a Gaming PC rig, I have a gaming PC that is hackintoshed.

Let's agree to disagree about min settings being viable play;)

On your 5870 mention (which was a good card)...it's not going to allow max settings on that fancy cinema display (which I consider to be the staple of many pro owners...at least the ones I know personally). To me, a game should be played at native res, settings aside.

Not to distract from the original issue...Crysis is still a very relevant and great benchmark for current system test. BUT, last time I checked...this isn't a dictatorship:) stay well, glad to hear theres some hackintosh gamers out there in MR

It's news like this that makes you realize, thank God Apple switched to Intel when it did!

I mean, imagine where we'd be if Steve Jobs didn't have the forsight to develop an Intel version of OS X from the very beginning, 6 years ago?

We'd be stuck with IBM still trying to put out a 3 GHz G5, and notebooks would still be mired in G4 land.

It makes you shudder when you think about what might have been....

But the reality is, Macs are going to be incredibly kick butt scream machines by the time Macworld 2007 rolls around. 2007 looks like it's definitely going to be the year of the Mac!

It's Showtime. Obvious reference to movies. What do (consumers) want? What does apple like to sell? HARDWARE. Steve will introduce some sort of on-line movie service. I have no idea what it will be, other than different from other options. To me, the on-line movie store is not a bit sexy.

What will be sexy are the other three devices he will introduce that will use that service...

    1) True Video iPod. With some sort of wireless transfer method. There is no point in on-line service (for apple) if it ain't mobile.

    2) The Apple Movie Machine, probably looking a lot like a Mini, to interface wirelessly to your computer with your TV seamlessly, using an improved Front Row. It will have DVR capability and ability to work with streamed high quality video from iTunes movie store.

    3) 23" iMac with a TV tuner, and the ability to pickup streamed movies from the ITunes movie store, and built-in DVR capacity upon which to view those nice movies.

Indeed it is. Microsoft is simply DEAD after 12th of September...Apple is finally gonna reach the status of market leader in media and computers...this is gonna be mindblowing.

They should respond with an original product line.

And yes there will be people who say "apple isn't the first to come up with idea X". Nonsense. Apple takes several new ideas (some their own making, others not) and brings them together to make a new product. Apple takes a risk that their large investment will pay off and that a new product line will emerge. They do not do small production runs with these new products.

No one else made a tablet with the bells and whistles of the ipad that came together with the user experience one expects now on a tablet and produced it in such large quantities hoping a new market would emerge with great demand.

Apple could have simply said netbooks are the safe bet, lets do that. But they didn't.

Going forward, every tablet is going to be similar. That is fair enough. But when I look at the samsung devices, I feel like there is nothing really new about the user experience. It looks very similar to the ipad; more than one would expect. Creative companies would at least try to do something original.

...this law just got passed (today?). It won't be enforced until July next year, I think.

I wouldn't say it is stupid. The other day, I saw a woman driving a big SUV, a cellphone in one hand and an icecream in the other

It's been law in the whole country here for many years, not a stupid law at all and I've seen it enforced many times. If you're driving that's where 100% of your attention should be, just because you've got away with it before doesn't mean you always will.
